Work description
Farm Equipment Mechanic (SOC Code 49-3041): This responsibility falls under the FLSA definition of secondary agriculture since the job duties are incidental and in conjunction with Heritage Farms’ farming operations. Diagnose, adjust, repair, install and maintain farm equipment, including vehicles, trucks, trailers, tractors, harvest machines, harvest trailers, farm implements and equipment, water booster pumps, and other farm equipment. Repair irrigation equipment and lines. Qualifications: • Twelve months experience agriculture equipment (tractors, motors, etc.) and auto mechanic • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicles. • Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods. • Ability to handle various tools (e.g. pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g. lift). • Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protections against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals etc. • Familiarity with government regulations, legal issues, safety protocols and procedures. • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills. • Excellent communication skills, oral and written. • Ability to prioritize, multitask and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced changing environment. Physical Requirements: • Communicates orally with management, employees, co-workers, vendors, and the general public by telephone or in person, in one-on-one or group settings. • Regularly uses a telephone, computer (e-mail) and fax for communication. • Required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time during the course of work shift. • Routinely required to stoop, bend, kneel, lift, and reach, in the performance of job function. • Requires the essential use of hands, speech, eyesight, and hearing. • Exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. • Exposed to high noise and vibration levels. • Lifting limitations for this position: 30-50 lbs. • Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral and depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus as needed. • Must be able to pass random and required drug and alcohol tests. • Spend significant time outdoors, exposed to potentially difficult environment conditions. Crops: Strawberries, lettuce, romaine lettuce, green and red leaf, Frise, baby spinach, baby green and red spring mix, multi-leaf, kale, arugula, mizuna.
