Work description

During the winter season, workers will perform general livestock and farm maintenance duties associated with the care of cattle and winter farm operations. Duties will include feeding cattle and calves according to the farm’s feeding schedule, including bucket-feeding grain to calves. Workers will haul hay to livestock and remove net wrap from hay bales before feeding. Workers will inspect, maintain, and monitor livestock water tanks and watering systems to ensure an adequate supply of water is available and to prevent freezing during cold weather. Workers will chop and remove ice around livestock watering areas as necessary. Workers will assist with snow and ice removal from areas necessary for safe access to livestock, feeding areas, farm buildings, and equipment. Workers will also perform general shop and farm maintenance work as needed during the winter season. Workers will grease, inspect, clean, and perform routine maintenance on livestock feeding equipment and other farm equipment used during winter operations. Duties may include assisting with minor repairs, equipment upkeep, and preparing and maintaining equipment for continued farm use.
